Why wooden toys? That was the first question my husband asked me when he first saw Emily’s wooden rattle. I told him, well it’s BPA free which means it’s safe. But really, I didn’t know much about the advantage of wooden toys compared to plastic ones.
Like any other mom, I went down to business and did my research knowing that I will have to soon justify my choice to my husband.
As it turns out, there are a lot of good things that come from using wooden toys, aside from just being plastic free (which translates to being safe).
Here are just some of the reason that made it for me.
- Durability – since it’s made of quality wood, it’s hard for kids to damage it, unlike cheap plastic toys that easily break – which could be a choking hazard.
- Beautiful and Timeless – for someone who’s very particular with aesthetic, wooden toys has a classic feel to it and easily blends with your own decor.
- Tactile – wooden toys are heavier compared to plastic toys, which means that kids need to exert more energy as they play. This means that they are more aware of what they’re doing.
Wooden toys may cost more than plastic ones (or other toys in general), but you have to consider that these toys last for a very long time and not just for limited use.
I plan to slowly grow Emily’s collection of wooden toys with hopes that as she grows, she will find different ways to use it and help her build her imagination.
