Emily

Being a mom of 3 boys, one would expect that I could tell the difference between real and false labor. As it turns out, I’m dot. I have had 2 false alarm. But in my defence, I really thought that It was the real deal.

My husband had to call in sick just to take me to the hospital. Unfortunately, when the doctor checked, I was only dilated 2 cm and so I had to go home.

Fast forward to 2 weeks after.

Like any other day, I woke up very early, around 5:30am. I went to the bathroom and lo and behold, I had a bloody show. I woke my husband up and told him we needed to go to the hospital soon. Having had 2 false alarm, he wasn’t really sure if he should be excited or not.

So, I took a bath, had breakfast while my husband gathered all the things we needed to bring to the hospital (baby bag, insurance, cell phone charger, etc). At around 7:30am, I kissed my boys (and sister) goodbye and left for the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital at around 8:00am and by 8:30am, I was in my room (it was my own private delivery room). The doctor came to check me and to my surprise, he told me that I was still only 2cm dilated. I saw the dismay on my husband’s face when he heard it. But since I was already bleeding, they admitted me.

When the nurse came to hook me on the fetal monitor, I told her that with all my 3 boys, I had very short labor and the baby easily transition. She said, well, you’re only 2cm so we can expect the baby to come out maybe by midnight.

I didn’t argue with her but I know in my heart, it wouldn’t take that long.

Back to my husband, he was still very uneasy knowing that there’s was a big possibility that i could deliver our baby the next day and the fact that he had already used up his paternity leave.

Around lunchtime, I told my husband go to the cafeteria and grab lunch while I try to get some shut eyes.

Around 1:00pm, I got woken up by an intense pain. My contraction was getting stronger and so I called my husband.

As soon as he arrived, I told him that the pain was just too much and that he needs to call the nurse. He went out and came back immediately, he said that my doctor just delivered another baby and was on his way back.

Around 1:30pm, my breathing exercise wasn’t helping me that much anymore and so I told my husband to go check with the nurse again. Before he even stepped out of the door, my bag of water broke! When he saw the sudden gush of water, he ran as fast as he could to get the nurse.

2pm. This is where everything happened so so fast. The nurse gave me an IE – 8cm. She was shocked and immediately called the doctor. Thankfully, my doctor arrived within minutes. He also gave me an IE and said, that I was ready and that the baby’s coming.

Since they weren’t really expecting me to deliver that early, they didn’t have anything in the room.

They were rushing to bring and have everything ready.

I told my doctor, she’s coming out I can feel her head. He said, don’t push – please bear in mind, he was still putting on his gloves when he said this – I politely told him that I wasn’t.

2:24pm – August 14, 2017 – after a very soft push, she was out. I gave birth to my Emily.

IMG_5325 I can finally breathe. Another gift from God. I was so happy I didn’t feel tired at all even if I was really exhausted. The doctor joked that It was the easiest delivery he ever did and I believed him. He was only with me for less than 30 min and he was done.

While I was waiting to be wheeled out to my room, I couldn’t stop staring at my baby. I was on cloud nine.

Emily. She’s the most beautiful baby ever. Her eyes, nose, skin and everything are perfect. I’m just so happy and thankful.
